Green Ideas in Action: Rosevale Students Take on the GreenPreneurship Challenge

On 6–7 August 2026, the Academy of Entrepreneurs brought its two-day BossYourFuture: GreenPreneurship program to Rosevale School in Cagayan de Oro. A total of 196 students from Grades 7 to 12 participated in the program, facilitated by AE CEO and Founder Paula Mills, with the support of Marie Muteria.

The program began with discussions on mindset, global change, entrepreneurship, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students examined concerns affecting Cagayan de Oro, including household and food waste, pollution, water-related challenges, and the condition of the Cagayan River, and explored how these problems could be transformed into meaningful green solutions.

A major part of the program was introducing AI as the students’ “new best friend” for learning, research, and problem-solving. Through hands-on activities using ChatGPT, students practised creating effective prompts, examining issues from different perspectives, researching their potential customers, and developing stronger business ideas.

Working in teams, they connected their passions with problems they wanted to solve. They also explored market research, customer needs, competitor analysis, pricing, branding, and revenue models before developing their business names and logos.

On the second day, the students moved from ideas to action. Using design thinking and Lovable AI, they created websites or working app prototypes for their proposed green solutions. They refined their concepts through mentoring before presenting their brands, business ideas, and prototypes.

Among their outputs was a plantable pencil containing a seed that could be planted after the pencil had been used. Another team transformed carabao manure into sustainable paper products, including sticky notes and notepads, supported by a website and online order form. Another group developed a social enterprise focused on cleaning and protecting the Cagayan River through community participation and volunteerism.

Despite the size of the group, the students remained attentive, participative, and eager to share their ideas. The experience showed what young people can accomplish when they are empowered to use entrepreneurship and emerging technology to address real concerns in their community.
